Using experiences to reflect and shine in the cover letter and interview.
The main topic of this workshop is reflection and how we can use our reflective abilities when writing a cover letter and answering interview questions to convey a clearer picture to the employer of who we are as a candidate.
The students are introduced to a reflection model and learn to apply it to their personal and professional experiences. The results of their reflective analysis next become the basis for practicing describing their skills in writing in class.
Lastly the students are introduced to the STARR method as a way of answering interview questions and practice using it hands-on in class.
Learning outcome
After completing the course, students should:
Knowledge
- Understand the impact that personal and professional reflection has on the quality of a cover letter
- Understand cover letter theory on how to distinguish oneself as a candidate
- Understand the Hatton & Smith reflection theory
- Understand the STARR method
Skills and competence
- Be able to apply the Hatton & Smith reflection model to their own experiences
- Be able to use the result of their reflection exercise when writing a motivation letter
- Be able to apply the STARR method when answering interview questions
