As the new Vice President Sustainability and International Affairs at the University of Mannheim, the coordinating university of ENGAGE.EU, Professor Dr. Moritz Fleischmann officially took over the office of coordinator of the university alliance on 1 October 2024.

After two years as coordinator, Professor Dr. Thomas Fetzer handed over the office to his successor Moritz Fleischmann when he became President of the University of Mannheim.

A graduate in Business Mathematics, Fleischmann has held the Chair of Supply Chain Management since 2009. He has lived in France and in the Netherlands for many years, and is a “convinced European”. With his research focus on sustainable management to reduce emissions in transportation and production processes, he took part in the Think Tank 2024 at NHH in Bergen. “Offers such as the ENGAGE.EU Think Tank are valuable platforms for interdisciplinary exchange and international collaboration,” says Fleischmann. “In my new role as coordinator of ENGAGE.EU, I am looking forward to further developing innovative activities for students and researchers that are aligned with the needs of the alliance members. European cohesion is of immense value, especially in times when borders are once again coming under increasing pressure. ENGAGE.EU contributes directly to strengthening this cohesion and I am happy to be a part of it.”

Despite the change in leadership, Thomas Fetzer will also remain involved in ENGAGE.EU as President of the University of Mannheim. “It was a great experience to be able to work so intensively with the ENGAGE.EU partner universities over the past two years,” says Fetzer. “Working closely together as well as the personal connections have brought me great joy and I am very grateful to be a part of this inspiring alliance. As President of the coordinating university, I will continue to actively support ENGAGE.EU.”
