Bachelor’s level courses: enrollment in a bachelor’s program at a participating university in the respective semester. Ideally, you have completed one year of full time studies which amounts to 60 ECTS Credits. Proficiency in the courses’ language of instruction at level B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages is required.

Master’s level courses: enrollment in a master’s program at a participating university in the respective semester. Proficiency in the courses’ language of instruction at level C1according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages is required.

Special note for Tilburg University students: If you are a so-called pre-master student at the time of the envisaged courses, you unfortunately cannot participate in those ENGAGE.EU offers.

Please note: in addition to the above-mentioned general admission requirements, single courses may also have special admission requirements such as previous knowledge in the field etc. Please take a close look at the course descriptions and stated requirements in the course catalog.

No, students may only participate in courses offered at the level of their study program at their home university.

You will find all courses offered via the Online Exchange Initiative (OEI) in the ENGAGE.EU Course Catalog. Please set the respective filters (level = Bachelor’S OR Master’s Degree, term, delivery = online and/or hybrid). When clicking on ‘Details’, you will be able to learn about the course content, requirements, lecture dates etc. The button ‘Course Details’ will bring you to the course description from the university offering the course.

Please note: the ENGAGE.EU Course Catalog does not only list OEI courses, but also PhD and Advanced Research Courses and Staff Courses. Please refer to the respective webpages to learn about the application procedures of these formats.

You need to apply at the respective host university directly, according to the information provided in the ENGAGE.EU Course Catalog (button ‘how to apply’ on the course detail pages). There you will find all information provided by the host university regarding their course offer and their application modalities. A pre-selection procedure at the home university is not required. Usually, students need to submit a Letter of Motivation, a Confirmation of Enrollment at the home university, and a Transcript of Records.

In principle: Yes. Please be aware of varying application procedures and framework conditions at the different partner universities. You will need to adhere to the respective procedures and regulations of all partners you apply for. Moreover, be aware that you will then be registered/enrolled at different partner universities at the same time.

Please make sure to only apply for courses you are really interested in and double-check your time budget und temporal overlaps of courses at different institutions. Therefore, we recommend to apply for courses at not more than two partner universities.

The host university will inform you about your To Do’s up to the semester start or course start. Please make sure to follow all administrative steps the host university requires from you – otherwise your course participation might not be guaranteed.

Please make sure to inform the respective contact person at the host university about your withdrawal as soon as possible so that the host university can process this accordingly. In general, we expect that you only apply for courses you intend to complete entirely.

First and foremost, participating in OEI courses at ENGAGE.EU partner universities aims at enabling the students to benefit from international learning experiences, in addition to physical student exchange programs. Participation in the Online Exchange Initiative should therefore not entirely depend on the question of recognition, rather on student’s interest in the courses offered and in gaining international learning and team working experience. The question whether credits earned can be recognized for your degree at your home university is of course a relevant question and depends on your study program, your individual course choice and possible matches with home curriculum courses.

To learn about a possible recognition of ECTS earned from one of our ENGAGE.EU partner universities, please get in touch with your home university before you begin the virtual mobility (see section “Information for Outgoing OEI students” below). If possible, we recommend to conclude a Learning Agreement that contains the courses you are planning on taking and the confirmation of their recognition by the home university. This document is your guarantee for the recognition of the learning achievement.

As soon as you have received your Transcript of Records, the certificate containing the courses you attended and grades you earned from your host university, you can request the recognition and

conversion of the credits you obtained abroad with the examination committee of your home university. You will need to submit the Learning Agreement and the Transcript of Records by your host institution and state that you have obtained these credits within the framework of the Online Exchange Initiative.

Please note: in case your home university’s coordinator may for organizational reasons not be able to provide you with a Learning Agreement until the application deadline, we recommend to apply at the partner university whatsoever to ensure that you meet the application deadline. In the event that a recognition might not become possible, you are still able to withdraw from your application at the host university. In this case, please make sure to inform the respective contact person at host university about your withdrawal!

At the end of your virtual mobility, you will receive an official transcript of records from the host university.

All students who successfully participated in OEI courses receive an ENGAGE.EU Certificate of Attendance, together with the host university’s transcript of records.

As of Fall 2024, ENGAGE.EU partner universities will open online courses for the Online Exchange Initiative that are taught in local languages of instructions, next to English. So, in addition to courses taught in English, you may find courses taught in Bulgarian, Catalan, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Norwegian, Spanish and Swedish. Proficiency in the courses’ language of instruction at level B2 (for Bachelors’ courses) and C1 (for Masters’ courses) according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages is required.

No, you can attend and complete the same OEI course only once.

Due to the scope of courses offered by all OEI partner universities, temporal overlaps of courses offered cannot be ruled out.  You will find all OEI course details (including the lesson times) in the ENGAGE.EU Course Catalog by clicking on the ‘Course details’ button (if applicable, also take Bulgaria’s different time zone into account!).

Tuition fees for participating students of this initiative are waived. Please note that you have to bear the costs for reading materials and literature if a course requires the like. WU Vienna requires a small administrative fee for enrollment.

Information for Outgoing OEI students (home universities’ OEI pages)

All students who are interested in OEI should understand their home university’s regulations on how to participate in OEI, including the procedures for obtaining a learning agreement and the procedure to apply for recognition. For that purpose, all participating universities have created OEI pages for their outgoing students. Please make sure to read them carefully! You will also find the OEI contact persons on these websites.
