ENGAGE.EU Expedition Week+ Kick-off at WU to Tackle Forced Migration Challenges

On Monday, 23 September 2025, WU officially launched the ENGAGE.EU Expedition Week+ focusing on the pressing topic of forced migration.

In their opening remarks, WU Vice-Rector for Academic Programs and Student Affairs Margarethe Rammerstorfer and Rudolf Dömötör, Director of the WU Entrepreneurship Center, along with WU experts on forced migration Judith Kohlenberger and Katharina Miko-Schefzig, gave insights for a week of collaborative learning and innovation.

Representatives from the partner organizations United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Caritas, and Migrant.at presented key issues of pressing real-world challenges:

  • the influence of refugees on EU decision-making,
  • the empowerment of refugee women,
  • volunteer engagement in the refugee sector.

Throughout the week, master’s and doctoral students from ENGAGE.EU partner universities will work together to create innovative, research-driven solutions to these challenges.

The participants also had the opportunity to visit the United Nations Headquarters in Vienna, where they explored the premises and gained valuable insights into the work of UNHCR Austria.

We eagerly await the creative ideas and solutions that will emerge by the end of this exciting week.
