EAIE Gothenburg 2025 Conference: A Look into the Future and Engagement of European University Alliances

The ENGAGE.EU Alliance is a proud participant in the European Association for International Education Conference 2025 in Gothenburg. The event started on 9 September and concludes on 12 September 2025.
Several representatives from partner universities in ENGAGE.EU joined the program manager Leonnie Cedano at the booth and engaged in meaningful discussions with a diverse range of individuals from other alliances and beyond. This year, our alliance shared the booth with the AURORA European University. ENGAGE.EU offered Fika coffee and buns at the booth for partner universities within the alliance and beyond, fostering a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
The conference featured the following sessions with ENGAGE.EU participation:
WEDNESDAY 10 SEPTEMBER 2025
ROUNDTABLE SESSION with EELISA, ENLIGHT, ENGAGE.EU
“Fail to succeed Engagement stories and practices from EUI alliances”
From the outset, European Universities Initiative alliances served as a seedbed for educational innovation, aiming to establish broad partnerships at an unprecedented level and deeply embed internationalization. Now, more than four years in, European universities have taken a moment to reflect on some of the most memorable failures. Specifically focusing on actions to engage academics. These failures helped them develop new practices, and their reflection on the lessons learned has energized them as they move forward.

THURSDAY 11 SEPTEMBER 2025
ROUNDTABLE SESSION with Una Europa, AURORA and ENGAGE.EU
“Who is driving your EUI alliance? Perspectives on co-creating shared leadership”
This session discussed the complexity of shared leadership within European Universities Initiative alliances. It explored who is actually driving these alliances and what happens when an element of collaborative leadership is removed from the equation. Participants examined how to co-create, revise, or fine-tune the governance and management of our collective endeavor. The discussion focused on the leadership roles needed in EUI alliances to keep the ship on the right course.
