About ENGAGE.EU Summer and Winter Schools

The ENGAGE.EU Summer School is an intensive, two-week undergraduate summer programme taught by professors and lecturers from ENGAGE.EU universities. In line with the general ENGAGE.EU goals, the programme aims to provide a forum for interdisciplinary academic exchange and learning on current societal challenges. It aims at equipping students with hard and soft skills needed to tackle these challenges and act as responsible future leaders. Students from all ENGAGE.EU partner universities have the chance to actively participate in this summer programme. Additionally, a social programme is offered to foster networking opportunities.

Academic programme

The first component of the course programme will consist of an online session on June 9, 2025 and after that the Summer School will take place in Sofia, Bulgaria, from 16 to 27 June, 2025, in-present at the University of National and World Economy (UNWE). Its goal is to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and interdisciplinary perspectives needed to envision, design, and implement sustainable solutions tailored to Europe’s unique environmental, social, and economic contexts. The following course topics will be discussed:

  • Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in Organizations;
  • Reducing Inequality Through Inclusive Policies and Sustainable Practices;
  • Corporate Decarbonization and Emerging Climate Technologies;
  • Impact meets Profit: Marketing the organizational Purpose for sustainable futures.

Class sessions will take place from Monday to Friday morning of each week (two 90-minute class sessions per day). There will be also workshops in the afternoons with the lecturers and with experts in the field during the Summer School. There won’t be additional work/evaluation after the completion of the programme. Every student who completes the programme will receive a certificate for 5 ECTS credits.

Additional activities

In addition to the academic component, the participants will have the opportunity to practically engage with the topic of the summer school by attending expert lectures by guest speakers. The course programme and practical experiences will be complemented by a mix of social, cultural, and international events, including various opportunities to network with students from other countries and explore Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, and other beautiful places in the country.

Practical information

  • Lunches: Provided by the hosting university from Monday to Friday free of charge.
  • Ceremonies: There will be an opening ceremony at the start of the programme and a closing ceremony to conclude the event.
  • Accommodation: Accommodation is not included in the programme. However, the hosting university will provide a list of recommended accommodation options. Students are free to choose their accommodation independently and are not bound to these suggestions.

Nominated students may be eligible to receive ERASMUS+ financial support from their home universities. Please contact your coordinator to learn more about this.

Application

This ENGAGE.EU Summer school is targeted toward students of any citizenship who are enrolled in an undergraduate study programme (Bachelor’s programme) at one of the ENGAGE.EU alliance partner universities (University of Mannheim, LUISS University, NHH Norwegian School of Economics, Tilburg University, University of National and World Economy, Université Toulouse Capitole, Vienna University of Economics and Business, Ramon Llull University, Hanken School of Economics). Since the summer school is an interdisciplinary programme, students from diverse backgrounds (such as business, economics, law, social sciences) are strongly encouraged to apply if they meet the following requirements:

  • The applicant must be enrolled in an undergraduate study programme at one of the EU partner universities.
  • The applicant must have completed at least 60 ECTS credits by the time of application to the summer school, i.e., by March 16, 2025.

Application procedure

To apply for the ENGAGE.EU Summer School, students need to fill out the online application form below, and upload all necessary supporting documents, including:

  • Motivation statement: a digital file (video, text, visuals, slides or other) explaining the students’ background (education, work experience, language skills, study/work abroad experience, other relevant skills and experiences), as well as their interest and motivation for the topic of the summer school. The applicants are free to decide on the specific format of the statement, bearing in mind that creativity and innovativeness are welcome. Please note that this document needs to be in English, and, depending on the format, needs to have a limited scope:
    • for text files: 1 page (PDF)
    • for videos or similar: maximum 5 minutes (please attach a PDF file with a download link without expiration date)
    • for other visuals or similar: 10 slides (or comparable files)
  • Academic records (transcript of exams): in the official language of the applicant’s home university or in English).

The application period for students will open on February 24, 2025. Applications close on March 16, 2025 (23:59 EET). All applicants who submit their complete application on time will be informed about the status of their applications via email in April.

Selection procedure

Candidates will be evaluated based on their academic records, academic progress, and motivation statement. A limited number of students per partner university will be accepted to the summer school.
