ENGAGE.EU Winter School 2026 in Bergen

Academic programme

The ENGAGE.EU Winter School on Introduction to communicating ESG Performance is

  • An intensive, two-week winter programme
  • A mix of online and on-campus sessions
  • For advanced bachelor and master students from all fields of studies

The aim of the workshop is to introduce key frameworks and concepts to the students to develop a critical mindset in the domain of ESG reporting.

  • The course will introduce the concept of ESG reporting, EU regulations and international frameworks concerning ESG reporting.
  • The workshops cover ESG reporting from both the producer’s perspective and the consumer’s perspective as well as it takes into consideration both the positive and the normative approach to ESG reporting practice

Attendance and active participation in both course components (online and on-campus sessions) are pre-requisites for the successful completion of the Winter School.

The course assignment at the end of the course will form the basis for your grade for the transcript of records.

Week 2 – ON CAMPUS 12 – 16 January

Workshops by lead lecturer, Hussnain Bashir (NHH):

  • ESG Reporting and real sustainable change
  • Materiality in ESG Reporting
  • Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) & European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS)
  • Voluntary Standards

Other course activities:

  • Company visit
  • Career workshop
  • Group work sessions for the course paper
  • Social events throughout the week, but also free time to explore Bergen

The group course paper is due on 16 January. There will be no additional work for the Winter School after this date.

Practical information

Accommodation: You must arrange your own accommodation, but NHH will organise discounted options (link to accommodation will be published soon). Note that you are not bound to these options.

Scholarship: You may be eligible to receive financial support (Erasmus+ or other) from your home university. Please contact your university’s ENGAGE.EU coordinator to learn more about this.

Fees: There will be no tuition fees for participating in the Winter School for selected students.

Your profile

This ENGAGE.EU Winter School is for students from diverse academic backgrounds, such as business, economics, law, natural and/or social sciences. You must meet the following requirements:

  • You must be enrolled in a study programme at one of the ENGAGE.EU alliance universities.
  • You are a final year bachelor student or master student.
  • You should have a strong interest in the topic of the Winter School.

Application

The application deadline is 15 October 2025.

Apply for the ENGAGE.EU Winter School below (link/form provided from 1 October) and upload the supporting documents:

  • Transcript of recordsfrom home university (in the official language of your home university or in English)
  • Motivation statement (must be in English): You are required to show your motivation and interest for the topic of the winter school. You can document your motivation using ONE of the following platforms, bearing in mind that creativity and innovativeness are welcomed:
    • 2-minute video of motivation statement (preferred option)
    • 10-slides deck (e.g., using PowerPoint)
    • 1 page text of motivation statement

Selection

  • Only a limited number of students per partner university will be accepted to the winter school.
  • Students are evaluated based on their motivation statement, academic record and academic progress.
  • Each ENGAGE.EU university forms a selection committee to evaluate the applications of students from their university.
  • You will be informed about the status of your application via email by early November.

Note:

If applicable, participants shall be responsible for obtaining their own visas /student residence permit and completing the required immigration formalities, as well as for obtaining the travel documents and other related documents needed to pursue studies at the host university or another participating university. 

During the events, participants shall be subject to the rules, regulations, policies, procedures, codes and norms which are in force at the host university. 

Violation of host country law by the participant may subject the student to withdrawal of the immigration status and scholarship. 

For any physical mobility related to the event, participants will be required to carry adequate health insurance and need to ensure that their insurance will cover the potential costs of health care during that period.
