Visiting Opportunity For Phd Students:
Plan a research stay with one of our partner universities within the ENGAGE.EU alliance
All ENGAGE.EU partners can host visiting PhD students who are enrolled in a PhD programme at any of the partnering institutions for research periods of up to six months. This is an opportunity to extend your network, pursue a project with an expert in your field and immerse yourself into another cultural and institutional environment.
When?
Visiting research periods are usually agreed upon request and in agreement with the hosting professors. Requests can be made all year round.
How to?
PhD students interested in visiting another ENGAGE.EU institution should contact their preferred hosts (i.e. usually a professor with whom they want to work during their stay) directly via email expressing their desire for a visiting period. Include information on your profile, your research focus, a timeframe and an outline of your plans for the visit.
Who can participate?
PhD students enrolled at one of the ENGAGE.EU partner institutions.
Funding?
While there is no automatic funding for these visits, there are several local and European funding options depending on your home institution and your chosen length of visit. For example, there are several Erasmus+ funding schemes for PhD visits and your local international office may help you to identify the funding source that is best suited for you. Alternatively you might want to contact your local ENGAGE.EU Institutional Coordinator who can signpost to the respective offices.
For example, the “short term research stay” allows you to stay from 5 to 30 days and receive €70 per day for the first 14 days, then €50 per day from the 15th to the 30th day. How do you apply? First, check if your university has a mobility agreement for 3rd cycle with your hosting university. Then, obtain an invitation from the hosting university. Finally, get in touch with your university contact to apply through your university’s internal procedure.
If you prefer a longer stay, you can apply for a “long term research stay”. The minimum duration of your stay will be eight weeks. To start the application process, you will need a formal letter of invitation from your host university.
Partner institutions will provide a local workspace (potentially in a co-working area).
